Sending Art and Text as an
Electronic File
The following are guidelines for submitting
art and text as an electronic file to Darick Publishing.

Programs Accepted:

Quark Express (Mac or PC). (Note: Files saved on a PC may have cross platform issues with fonts and graphics. See below for more information. For best results Mac files would be preferred.) Additional costs may be added for other programs, call for approval. Text sent separately for releases should be saved in ASCII or TXT format

Publication Set Up:

Bleed size: 8.625”(W) x 11.375”(D). Bleed should extend at least .25” from trim edge.
Trim size: 8.125”(W) x 10.875”(D). Allow .25” between type matter and trim edge.

Colors:

Colors must be in the CMYK format. Most color types can easily be converted to CMYK in
Quark Express, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and other publishing programs.

Graphics:
Graphics should be sent in either EPS or TIFF format. This is very important because these file formats give the best cross-platform results. Make sure that all scans and clip art photos are converted to CMYK, most are originally in RGB. Resolution for graphics should be between 240-300dpi (120-150 line screen). Lower resolutions may cause problems in the quality of the final output. Release photos should be at least 3x3” and no larger than 5x5”. Make sure all graphics are included on disk or when sending files via email.

Fonts:
It is best to use fonts that are available on both Mac and PC platforms. Do not use True Type or Bit Map fonts. Include both screen and printer fonts on the disk being sent or when sending files via email. Remember: Quark does not normally collect fonts for you unless you have an extension to do so.

Email:

When sending files via email, it is best to compress the files using either WinZip (PC) or Stuffit (Mac).

Disks:
Iomega Zip (100 mb), Iomega Jaz (1 GB), CD, or 3.5” Diskette.

A laser print of the ad is required either in color separated or composite form.
